Main headcloth

The main headcloth excludes the area around the rear windows. Its rear edge has piping, with a wooden cord inside, as seen in the above photo. The close up below shows one of several flaps sewn onto the hidden side of the cloth, to allow it to be tacked to the roof frame. These flaps are tacked to the front faces of the roof frame cross-members, and the cloth is installed starting at its rear end.
A lot of tacks are fitted close together where the cloth goes around tight curves, although only a few of the wood frame cross members actually extend across to the cantrail. The photo below of the roof framework, shows that there is a large gap between the first and second attachment to the cantrail from the roof. Where there is no wood to tack the cloth to, the cloth simply bridges the gap, and drapes slightly under its own weight.
