Cloth covered card edge trim that fits either side of the rear shelf, helping to secure the rear headcloth to the wood frame that surrounds the rear shelf. The left-hand version is shown above, both front and back views.
These cards are fixed with panel pins hammered straight through the cloth and card, and the rust stained holes can be seen here.
